I’ve bemoaned the lack of posh style at the Middle Aged Mama residence before, in my post about Vogue Inferiors. (Check it out if you have a minute – it’s good for a giggle!)
If you were to come to visit my home, I’d love to serve you a cuppa in the finest china. The only problem is – I don’t have any!
What little finery I had was given away when we first of all packed up all our worldly goods to caravan around Australia, and then when we moved to the tiniest cottage in the Redlands.
But what I do have is a motley assortment of mugs.
There are mugs to make you laugh …
Mugs that were gifts from special people, some of them no longer with us …
And the mugs that reassure me I really *am* a great mum (we won’t mention the fact I had to put on a bit of a tantrum a couple of years back, as I was bitterly disappointed that I’d NEVER received a “great mum” mug before …)
(With bonus photo-bombing cat – say hello to Misty!)
And then the kids felt sorry for the hubster, so got him the male version …
A motley assortment of mugs to be sure, but all precious to me in their own way!
How about you – do you have fine china or is it mugs in your household as well?!

UPDATE: This post is extra poignant, as our precious Misty kitty was hit by a car and killed the day this post went live. I took the photos only the afternoon before, so this is the last photo I have of my precious furbaby. RIP Misty kitty, thank you for all the love and joy your brought into our lives. Always loved, never forgotten.

My mugs are a bit of both. They have been collected over the years, mismatched and odd shaped. They reflect my changing tastes, there are the all white one, the handmade pottery, the brightly patterned and the dainty floral. As I cannot bare to through out something that is perfectly useful, the collection grows.

I love having an assortment of mugs because most of them have been bought when travelling and therefore bring back lovely memories!

They may be motley but they’re also lovely and meaningful…
I’m very clumsy and have several incomplete sets of mugs and china cups – always short of one or two when friends come to tea. But I’ve managed to keep intact a Mother’s Day mug my son gave me from the infants school stall, once filled with chocolates. I hope to keep this till I’m an old woman, basking in the sweet memories. 🙂

I love this, Janet – such a great idea for a post! My cupboard is also a very motley assortment of mugs, each with its own story behind it. I feel like I know you better now I’ve seen inside your mug cupboard! 🙂
