You would think that if an ice cream changed my life, that I would at the very least remember what flavour it was.
Nope.
Knowing me though, I think it would be fairly safe to say that it was chocolate. But other than that, my mind’s a blank.
Twenty-eight years ago today – and yes, it was a Friday, just like today – a certain young man and I finished work for the week and decided to stop for an ice cream, in one of the many arcades in the city.
It was our very first date, and we sat chatting long after we finished our ice creams; the evening finished with us sharing our first kiss, before getting our respective buses home to opposite ends of the city.
The pic above is the very first one of us together; I couldn’t resist sharing even though the quality is terrible, because we look so young and in love. It was taken at the work Christmas lunch on 24 December in 1987, and was the first time we let our colleagues know about our brand new relationship (we were promptly moved to different sections not longer after that!).
I have now been married to that certain young man for over twenty-five years, and together we have two children: Mr 21, and Miss 19, and let’s not forget our precious furbaby, Miss Fleur!
And if you think *I’m* the sentimental one, let me just tell you a little secret … the hubster has kept the dress I wore that day, all those years ago. It’s yellowed with age, and I would have thrown it out long ago, but now I’m kinda glad it’s still around.
So that is how an ice cream changed my life, and definitely for the better π .
Ain’t love grand?!
Has an ice cream – or any other food – changed your life?! And what did you do on your first date?!

Aww, what a gorgeous story Janet! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you guys too. Gotta say, there’s nothing bad about ice cream, is there? π

A classic, romantic story Janet. How sweet that he’s kept the dress. Shortly after my husband and I met we walked up to a Nandos to buy a peri peri burger. Ever since then I’ve had an obsession with hot food and Nandos is a romantic place for us π
Janet Camilleri says
Naww sweet Pinky. Unfortunately “our” particular arcade – Rowes Arcade on Edward St – no longer exists π

Sweet story, Janet. Love good news love stories. : ) I think my first date with hubby was the movies, but our ‘Lets both admit we’re falling for each other’ unofficial first date involved taking my family pet dog for a walk and ended with our first kiss! That was back in December ’98. Ah, the memories …
Janet Camilleri says
Ours was a bit like that too Liz x
