At the risk of sounding really up myself, for the most part, these days I really *do* feel beautiful.
I would even go so far as to say that I am possibly looking the best that I have, in my entire life!
I felt truly beautiful on my wedding day 🙂
Now, this is not to say that I was hideous when I was younger. In fact, I look back on photos and wish I had realised back then, just how pretty I was. I guess this has in turn helped me to realise, that in years to come, I will look back on pics of myself NOW and realise I actually looked pretty damn good!
One of the benefits of being middle aged is that I now have more experience and wisdom to MAKE myself look beautiful. I know what colours and styles (in both hair and clothes) suit me, and how to pose for photos – and can work that knowledge to my advantage.
Working it baby!
It seems I am not alone in feeling I am just as good looking as I was in my twenties, if not more so – as this recent news article reports. Middle aged women across the globe are embracing “the belief that not only can you be attractive forever … but that you are actually MORE attractive now than you have ever been”.
There are several reasons for this: middle aged women today have improved health, better diets, more disposable income, and a “broader commitment to exercise and wellness” (oops!), and more active social lives, than women of generations past.
But there is more to it than that.
Beauty Secrets for Middle Aged Women:
a bit of makeup and styling can work wonders 😉
How to Feel Beautiful
The main reason that I feel beautiful, is thanks to my loving husband of 26 years. The way he looks at me, how he speaks to me, the things he does for me – all of these clearly send me the message that he thinks I am truly beautiful, inside and out.
Sure I still have my bad hair days, days when my skin breaks out, times when I feel bloated, daggy, tired, and ugly. And yet – with just a look, or a touch, he has the power to make me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world.
No wonder I feel beautiful, when he looks at me like that!
No doubt about it, I am a very lucky woman!
As the old saying goes, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Being constantly beheld by somebody who thinks you are drop dead gorgeous would have to be my biggest beauty secret! What woman wouldn’t blossom under such loving treatment, and start believing that she is indeed, beautiful?!
And why wouldn’t I believe him? I still think that *he* is the most gorgeous man on the planet, so it’s entirely possible that he really does see me through the same rose-coloured glasses!
Is there a certain age, or occasion, when you felt your most beautiful?!

I’m the opposite Janet. I think I was kinda attractive when young but now… not at all. I feel seriously fat and frumpy! Blergh!

Hey Deb, I’ve not only seen your photo I’ve met you, and I think you are beautiful. You have a lovely welcoming smile and face and that is what I notice the most xxx
Miss 19 says
Mum, I’d be lucky if I was half as beautiful as you when I grow up – inside and out! xx
Janet Camilleri says
Nawww you are the sweetest of girls. Love you!

I have no control over my health or weight at the moment and I’m pretty miserable with how I’m looking at feeling. Turning 40, before the thyroid and other condition hit me, I was rather happy with my weight and looks and hoping that I can eventually get back to that. It’s pretty depressing when even your GP thinks you’ve aged 10 years in 12 months.
Janet Camilleri says
I’m sorry you’re feeling so low Raych. I’m at least 5kg heavier than I want to be at this moment, and Mt Vesuvius is ready to erupt on my cheek so believe me I do know what it’s like to feel blah about your looks. But I feel sure you scrub up all right on the night when required. It’s about making the most of what you’ve got. And I bet YOUR hubster thinks you are gorgeous exactly the way you are – and your girls too!

This has been an interesting prompt hasnt it! I didn’t avoid it but I wanted to have ANZAC day front and centre today. I think that we all have beauty of one kind or another and I know that my smile lights up my face even when I am feeling my ‘worst’. I go with the inner beauty option too. I grew up with a beautiful mum who took immense pride in her appearance. I was more into building my career and dealt with stress by eating…. and that put me in a less than confident state for some time. I would like to think we could be less hung up on ‘physicality’ but I sense our very human nature means not so. I love that your daughter commented. A gift from her to you! You are doing great Janet. Denyse xx

I was so thrilled to see my girl commented! She often tells me I’m beautiful – the challenge for me is to accept her compliment graciously instead of joking that she needs glasses 😉

I love your style and your confidence. I definitely have more confidence now I’m older and I also have the benefit of knowing what looks best on me after 40 years of trial and error. You and your husband look gorgeous together x
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Kirsty – from one beautiful woman to another xxx

awww! that’s amazing that you have someone who helps you feel beautiful. What a lovely post. Also your daughter is the sweetest! 🙂
Janet Camilleri says
I’m very spoilt Tory, in both my hubster AND my kids! Sometimes when I’m feeling down about my looks I think about what I would change if I could wave a magic wand- and you know what, I wouldn’t change anything because then I wouldn’t be ME.
