Presenting the next step in our master bedroom makeover (which I’ve been planning for over two years, so it’s about time!).
You can catch up on Step 1 (painting a feature wall) and Step 2 (what to do if your bed is in front of a window) … it’s okay I’ll wait π .
At last – new bed linen!
The logical next step was to update our bed linen – but the hubster and I couldn’t agree on whether to choose a quilt, comforter or bedspread.Β It was all just getting too hard …
Love my new cushion covers π
Although we both loved our comforter, hubster thought a bedspread would be the best way to make sure we were both covered throughout the night; while I was taken with the enormous array of designs available in quilt covers.
And then I had an idea.
Hubster is always whingeing about cat hair on the bed. So … what if I bought a quilt cover just for looks during the day, and we kept using our oh-so-cosy comforter at night?
I don’t know why the hubster keeps complaining about cat hair …
We could peel the quilt cover back every night when we went to bed, and any cat hair with it!
I was astounded by my own brilliance π and quickly set about making it so.
Which is how I found myself at Spotlight the very next week, and as luck would have it, there were some great discounts to be had.
I came home with a new quilt cover and matching pillowcases; two aqua pillowcases; two lime green pillowcases; two cushion covers; a small cushion; and a turquoise table runner and placemats to use as doileys on our bedside and dressing tables – and still had change from $150.
Even our stuffed toys seems to approve ofΒ my choice!
The funny thing is, I’d seen this particular quilt cover online but it didn’t really grab me even though it had all my favourite colours. But once I was in store, it was a different matter … which is why online shopping is not always the best, y’know?
See what I mean?!
The verdict: I love my new bed linen, it adds just the right amount of colour to our bedroom.
The final stage of our bedroom makeover will be updating the furniture. I thought about attacking covering it with some chalk paint, but after painting a cheval mirror I realised I didn’t have the time or the patience to do an entire bedroom suite.
Eventually we will buy something new, but in the meantime, I’m happy with the way the new bed linen seems to bring it all together.
When was the last time you bought new bed linen?!

Pretty colours.

Thanks Liz – I love teal and aqua π

Looks great. Fab idea to solve the cat hair. I might need to do the same. We have a ragdoll cat and the amount of hair you find around the place makes me think I should find a good use for it. LOL

Oh I know! Miss Fleur has short hair but it still ends up EVERYWHERE, even though I brush her every couple of days. What’s that about?!
Nicole @ The Builder's Wife says
This looks lovely Janet, the colours are so bright and cheerful. We update our linen every year or so, I do get bored easily, so a little change goes a long way. xx

I worked out in this post: https://middleagedmama.com.au/bedroom-decor/ that we tend to change every 5 years. Way overdue this time, as it’s been over six!

Looks so gorgeous and fresh

Lovely colour scheme Janet and super smart buying. I think we have developed a bit of an addiction to lovely bed linen, a new cover and pillowslips makes such a fresh difference. We are now at least buying in tones that we can mix and match so we get more bang for our buck.

It does make a difference doesn’t it! I have a bit of an addiction to cushions, the hubster rolled his eyes when I brought these ones home but as I told him I bought COVERS, as we do have a zillion cushions … how smart am I LOL …

We bought a new bed not so long ago so I have had a few splurges on linen of late. Pretty colours Janet!
