We all know I’m a crazy cat lady … but what you might not have realised is:
I’m married to a crazy cat man (and proud of it)!
I first noticed he had a real soft spot for cats, the very first time I visited him at his parent’s house – when he played silly chasey games on the driveway with his (then) black and white cat.
I think I knew even then that this was one very special guy!
I’m not alone in thinking this: there is much to love about men who love cats. Apparently they are kinder, more patient, make more money, are more intelligent … but don’t take my word for it, check out the article I’ve linked to!
Real Men Love Cats
One of our first decisions as newlyweds was to get a cat of our own. Alas, coming into winter was the wrong time of year for kittens so it was November before we got our first fur-baby. Chloe was a black ball of fluff, so little she could run around on a plate!
Of course wouldn’t you know it, we’d no sooner brought Chloe home than a work colleague mentioned she had tabby kittens to give away. My crazy cat man has always had a soft spot for tabbies so before the week was out, Chloe had a sister, Tasha.
I’ve long said that my hubster is a cat-whisperer. He can seriously get any cat to come to him – which is no mean feat, given how cats can be very stand-offish around strangers! Clearly they know a good guy when they see one π .
Nowadays we are the proud parents of Fleur (3) and Seth (6) … oh and Mr 22 and Miss 20. It’s amazing how similar our parenting roles are with our fur-babies, as with our non-fur-babies. The kitties know to come to Mama for cuddles and love, while Dad is always good for fun and games!
Just take a look at this boat shaped cat climber he made:
A keen fisherman, he always gives the kitties tidbits when he is filleting; and when he does the grocery shopping, he will often bring home a few prawns (the cats’ favourite treat).
Sometimes when he is lavishing attention on one of our cats, he will stop and say to me: I’m sorry, I should be giving all this attention to you! And I always tell him … Don’t be sorry, when you are loving on our cats, you are loving me π .
Crazy Cat Man: the next generation
Mr 22 is already showing signs of being a crazy cat man … he shares a particularly close bond with our tabby, Seth (though he loves Fleur, too).
One wild and stormy night recently, the hubster and I were lying in bed and thought about getting up to check the cats were okay (even though they are tucked safely into bed on their cat patio each night, we know they don’t like thunder storms) but … bed was soooo comfortable …
However the next morning we learned that not only had our son got up to check on the kitties – he actually sat with them out on the cat patio, and kept them company during the noisiest parts of the storm!
Do you have a crazy cat man in your life?!

Janet what a beautiful post! It’s lovely to see men getting all gooey with cats, and vice versa. Your first photo reminds me of a winter when my husband had recurrent pneumonia, and our old ginger tom would jump up on him and curl up on his chest as though to keep him warm. Cats always know when you are sick and try to comfort you. Very intuitive little creatures.
Janet Camilleri says
They do, don’t they?!
Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond says
I don’t actually but my husband would love a dog although apartment living is not ideal. Yay for your Crazy cat man and the next generation – gotta love them!
Janet Camilleri says
Dog or cat, if they have a soft spot for animals they must be alright x
Kathy Marris says
Ha ha! Cats are definitely not my hubby’s thing. He’s a dog man through and through.
Janet Camilleri says
So long as they have a soft spot for animals … doesn’t matter if it is dogs or cats x
Julia says
I always say, the only people who don’t like cats are people who have never had one. Hence why Maxy won’t let me get a kitty… Though I’m sure he’ll cave one day π
Janet Camilleri says
I 100% agree. He loves our kitty though!
Julia says
Also check out Seth’s face in that photo with Dion!!!

I don’t have a crazy cat man in my life but we have had cats! Our first cat was Monty (tabby) – a kitten we adopted when people down the street moved out and abandoned their cat who then had kittens. Friends of ours took the other kitten. Then we got Rocky (a ginger) who was a kitten from the cat of a work colleague who lived at Rocklea (hence the name). Both deceased a long time ago but they were such great buddies. #TeamLovinLife
Janet Camilleri says
I can’t believe how irresponsible some people are with their pets. I’m glad you gave Monty (and Rocky) a loving home.
Vanessa says
Naww how are the kitties in a storm?
Janet Camilleri says
They don’t like the big noise, especially Seth.
Leanne says
My hub loves our cats too – well he loves one of them and politely puts up with the one who constantly seeks attention! I laughed about the parenting cats comment – one of ours decided she wanted to go out last night (all night) when she’s not allowed to. So with her banging on the cat door and us getting up and down to her all night I felt like I was back to being a new mum again! There will be some strong words tonight if she tries it again!
Janet Camilleri says
Haha that sounds like my hubby, he politely puts up with Seth (who still can’t be trusted not to spray inside the house …) and yes, they ARE like kids sometimes. Seth even likes company to go to the litter tray, I think Miss Fleur must give him a hard time!
Jo says
Aww, that is so sweet! Your crazy cat man are keepers. Bet the cats think so too π #teamlovinlife
Janet Camilleri says
LOL yes. In fact I have a feeling that when Mr 22 moves out Seth will be going with him …
Sanchie @ Living my Imperfect Life says
Such an aww post Janet! I loved the first picture in particular though all were great. Mr Imperfect is a dog person but does love Pebbles and Buttons; however, I think he thinks they are dogs and will keep picking them up for cuddles when they are not in the mood. He’s certainly not a cat man yet but I guess time will tell??
Janet Camilleri says
Yes that’s one of my fave pictures too Sanch, of the hubster and Miss Fleur having a “moment”. I’m sure you’ll convert him in the end!
Leanne @ Deep Fried Fruit says
My husband isn’t a crazy cat man, he’s a crazy Dr Doolittle though. All creatures great and small. Thankfully he doesn’t bring them all home with him, but he will always stop on the side of the road to help an injured bird or turtle or whatever, and we always take our spiders outside. Nothing gets killed in our house (except ants … I spray them because I haven’t worked out how to rehome ants yet).

Janet Camilleri says
That’s so sweet Leanne! Except for the spiders. Ewwwwwww!
Sydney Shop Girl says
Aww, cat lover photos always make me smile.

Me too π I love seeing them, taking them, and sharing them! Guess that’s why I’m a crazy cat lady!
Pinky Poinker says
No but I have turned mine into a crazy chicken man!
Janet Camilleri says
LOL love it!
