I love going on cruises; so far I’ve been on five*.
However, cruising to PNG was never on my list; I had absolutely no interest in it … until a friend went last month on an 11 night cruise, and shared these awesome photos:
Imagine swimming in these beautiful crystal clear waters – it truly is an unspoiled paradise! Reminds me a bit of Lifou in New Caledonia 🙂 .
The island of Kitava, population 2000. The hut on the bottom left is the medical centre in the middle of town.
Rabaul, Papua New Guinea.
Of course, one of the other great things about cruising holidays is:
The Food!
Five course meals, consisting of soup, starter, entree, main and dessert …
My friend says she came back 4kg heavier … looking at these pics, I’m not surprised. I feel like I’ve gained a kilogram just looking at them!
Cruises are also known for providing fabulous on board entertainment, and seems this cruise was no different:
~Sigh~ … must be time to book my next cruising holiday, I think!

I went to Lifou too – In October on a Royal Carribeen cruise. My favourite holiday- they made the beds and all the fine dining and food , and more food.
PNG sounds good except I heard the hospitals are really not so good , a friend’s husband was a cruise to PNG and fell in volcanic hot pool -burned his feet and legs badly. He had to stay in hotel until he was transferred back to Cairns, then Sydney.

Hmmm it’s never fun being sick or injured when you’re away from home but especially when it’s in a country without the medical facilities we take for granted …

I went on my first cruise last year and loved it. Sadly cannot convince hubby to do it. He gets sea sick!
Janet Camilleri says
I do sympathise, I got sea sick on the first night of my 3rd cruise, terrible weather, and it was horrible. Don’t know why it hasn’t affected me before or since – even in rough weather!

I look longingly at pictures from people’s cruise but too scared to go on one. I have always suffered motion sicknesses and as I get older it gets worse and I don’t want to risk spending the whole cruise in bed. My hubby keeps trying to convince me, maybe we need to start on a short 3 day cruise to see if I get sick.
Janet Camilleri says
Good thinking Karen. There is nothing worse than feeling sick. I usually buy some Avomine from the chemist and take that each night of the cruise and am okay, though I did have one cruise in extremely rough weather and felt terrible.

I would love to try a cruise – I’m thinking one of the ones that goes from Brisbane to Sydney (then flying back) as a taster. I like the idea of enforced relaxation as I suck at relaxing but I also don’t like crowds so I don’t know how I would feel on a cruise. I’ve been on short boat trips in my life, and even in rough seas I haven’t gotten seasick so fingers crossed that won’t matter for me. Though I would stock up on items before hand just in case!

Vanessa, head to the chemist and get some Avomine if you ever go on a cruise, and take that each night and fingers crossed you will be okay. It all depends on the weather. Mind you when we went to NZ we had massive swell and I was fine, but on the second Vanuatu cruise I got sick as a dog and needed a shot, so it’s hard to predict. A taster cruise sounds like a fab idea!
