It’s been a while between posts – my last post was a bit of a wrap up of 2015,
so it seems only fitting that now all the craziness of Christmas and New Year is over, I look into my crystal ball and share my 2016 predictions for the Middle Aged Mama and fam …
The Middle Aged Kids
Mr 21 will remain in the nest for the foreseeable future as he is heading to Uni to study Commerce.
Miss 19 is happy to be back at work after her accident last year; we are still pursuing Centrelink regarding their failure to support her in her time of need. In March she will fly to England with her boyfriend to visit family, with stops in Italy and Dubai as well.
The Middle Aged Mama & Papa
Spare a thought for the hubster, who is having surgery on his ear today (including a skin graft) following a skin cancer diagnosis π .
We are giving some serious consideration to moving house to be closer to the hubster’s new workplace, and Mr 21’s university campus. While we NEVER enjoy the rigmarole associated with buying and selling, what makes it even more painful is this:
Our backyard on the leftΒ … compared to neighbouring properties
I’ve never mentioned it on the blog before, but we have been fighting with our local authority for coming up 2 years over this situation, and quite frankly, we are OVER it. For somebody who loves to garden, it is pretty depressing – hopefully it will be sorted soon, because it will be impossible to sell while it looks like this!
It’s not all bad news though! All going well, I should complete my Diploma in Digital Marketing this year – at last, some credentials in the field I’ve been working in for the last few years.
The hubster and I are also keen to escape to our beach shack for regular weekends and mini breaks. What beach shack?! Well, let’s just say, I hope to be able to share more soon! π
Oh, and I have a BIG birthday coming up (about this time next year), so want to book a special holiday to mark such an auspicious occasion!
The Blog
You might have noticed, the blog has had a bit of a makeover. Seems crazy that I build websites for clients, but never really get around to giving attention to my own! So that’s one job I’ve tackled over the Christmas break. It’s not quite where I want it to be yet, but I’m hoping you’ll agree it’s a huge improvement.
I’m very excited to be heading to Melbourne in February, as the guest of Princess Cruises … more to come!
All things considered, it should be a good year!
So what does 2016 have in store for you?!
Linking up with Essentially Jess for IBOT.
Lyndall @SeizeTheDayProject says
Best wishes to the hubster for his surgery Janet – hope he’s soon on the mend. Sounds like you have some exciting things happening this year. I hope 2016 brings all you wish for! π
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Lyndall – he’s getting there π
Min@WriteoftheMiddle says
Looks like a great year coming up for you Janet! Oooo travelling to Melbourne as a guest of Princess Cruises – how exciting! I look forward to hearing more. Good luck to your hubster for the surgery today. I’m sure all will be fine – great that it has been picked up and being dealt with. What a fabulous achievement it will be when you complete your Diploma in Digital Marketing. Loving the new look blog too. Mine needs a makeover also and will be getting one. Happy New Year to you! xo
Janet Camilleri says
I am loving the studies Min, so excited to have found my “thing”. I’m so thrilled with how my blog looks now, and even more so that I am confident in what I am doing … it’s taken a while!
Kathy Marris says
Happy New Year Janet! I do like your new look website – it looks great! Good luck with you proposed ventures and plans for 2016. Also all the best to hubster with his surgery. My plans in 2016 includes lots of travel (of course!) with trips planned to Singapore and an Asian cruise, Thailand, Queenstown and Milford Sound in NZ and Bali.
Janet Camilleri says
Oh I love your travel plans! Not so much happening travel wise for us this year with the hubster in a new job, and buying a beach house, but I figure that’s a pretty good trade-off π .
Hugzilla says
Love the new look and wishing you and your family all the best for a wonderful 2016!
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Zilla! Always lovely to hear from you x
Sally@Toddlers on Tour says
Sounds like you have a great year ahead planned, some of it with some hard work that you will reap rewards.
Good luck.
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Sally, and all the best for your 2016 too x
Denise says
Sounds like an exciting year head Janet! Enjoy and I hope your hubby is ok after his op. The website is looking very grand x
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Denise! I’m quite chuffed because I made it myself π …
Snoskred says
Fitness is my plan for this year. π I will keep a good thought for your yard!
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks! It really sucks. I try not to be down on the blog, or air dirty laundry, but this is ridiculous. It also helps that the hubster no long works for that particular local authority … ho hum.
Beck @craftypjmum says
Happy New Year lovely. Love the new look blog, very fresh. I cant wait to read of your adventures in 2016. xx
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Beck – and I made it myself!!! π
Sanch @ Living my Imperfect Life says
Sounds like good plans for the new year. Hope the house sale goes well as does your hubster’s surgery. Happy New Year Janet! Hope 2016 is great!
And Happy birthday too…I can’t remember the exact date but I seem to recollect it’s the first week of Jan.
Love the new look of the blog!
Janet Camilleri says
You have a great memory Sanch! I’m enjoying the last year of my naughty forties π
Renee Wilson says
Sounds like a fab and full year ahead, Janet. Meanwhile loving the new blog. Love this red font. Ooh la la. I’m glad to hear your daughter is feeling better. I hope you can make some progress with Centrelink. Exciting news about the Diploma!!!! What an achievement π
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Renee, me too, and I made it myself! I’m getting a lot better at customising WordPress websites and not just building them now π Oh and loving my studies. While I’ve enjoyed PB Event and Digital Picnic and other conferences and workshops, I realised that what I really needed was to go deeper π .
EssentiallyJess says
Exciting times ahead Janet!
I love the new look – it is very year.
Glad miss 19 is back at work and I hope your husband is ok.
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Jess, I just hope the pathology comes back clear and they got all of the cancer. At the moment he has kept the rim of his ear and he’d like it to stay that way, as if that goes the graft will be soft rather than rigid, and he doesn’t want a floppy ear …
Cam @ Gen-Y Mum says
I have so my questions, but I’m just being nosey.
All the best to your hubby, hope surgery goes well and he’s 100% in no time.
Life is always a mix of the good and bad stuff, keeps it interesting. I hope 2016 gives you more of the good stuff!
Wishing you an even more amazing 2016 Janet!
Janet Camilleri says
OH feel free to ask anytime Cam, I love to chat, I’m just a bit cautious about announcing anything here on the blog til it’s a fair accompli but still happy to discuss. All the best for your 2016 too!
Toni @ Finding Myself Young says
Hope husbands surgery went well and I’m glad miss 19 is back at work again and getting some income finally. How exciting that you’re going on the cruise soon! I don’t know what 2016 will hold for us yet, I think my brain is still in holiday mode because I can’t seem to get back to normal routine {including blogging}. #teamIBOT
Janet Camilleri says
I hear ya Toni! Technically I’m still on holidays too til Monday but finding myself at the computer an awful lot this week π just can’t keep away!
Pinky Poinker says
Sounds like a fab year ahead of you, Janet. You deserve every bit of it xxx
Janet Camilleri says
Nawww thanks Pinky – and to you and Scotto too xxx
Denyse says
Hi Janet, wow, what a busy time already but I can sense the air of excitement and change which sounds perfect. It is hard going through the selling house thing let alone trying to get ‘others’ to fix their part of your property. I wish you well. I do hope too, that this far into the week, that your hub is making a good recovery. Glad your Miss is back at work and that your son is into Uni. Phew! That’s quite a bit! More power to you! Denyse x
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Denyse! I kinda wish there was more travel in the plans for this year, but we can’t have everything π
Kooky Chic says
Sounds like an exciting year ahead but what’s with the garden? Looks frustrating? Hope the hubsters operation went well.
Janet Camilleri says
Extremely frustrating! All the properties on our side of the street have a private reciprocal easement for rainwater. Some neighbours have filled theirs so their backyards are level rather than terraced. Obviously it’s a great idea so filled ours, asked Council to raise sewer manhole (which they did) and asked them if there was anything else we needed to do … nope … yet as soon as it was finished somebody complained and Council threw the book at us! We had to remove the fill (they started legal action against us) … yet our neighbours upstream still have their beautiful back yards. Stupid situation and still fighting to have our yard filled again!!!!!
Deb @ inner compass designs says
Well done on the makeover and wishing hubby well and good health.
