What is all the fuss about macarons β and should it be macarons or macaroons?!
Despite the use of either word on many cafe menus, macarons and macaroons are NOT the same thing.
I vaguely remember my sister baking coconut macaroons when we were kids (funnily enough, that same sister LOATHES coconut today!).
Macarons however seem to have only arrived on the scene more recently. They are more like a flavoured meringue – hard on the outside, soft on the inside, and two are sandwiched together with a butter cream.
I Must Confess: I’ve fallen in love with macarons, after I discovered them on my recent cruise, and have been searching for a local supplier ever since my return.
Macarons at McDonalds
Turns out, any McCafe stocks a range of macarons, so I gave them a whirl. Sadly (or perhaps it’s just as well for my waistline!) – they were poor imitations of the ones I’d enjoyed on my holiday.
You’d be better off seeking out a specialty macaron cafe, like Whisky Business at Capalaba, if you want a taste of a REAL macaron.
High Tea at Whisky Business
In fact, I was so impressed by the macarons at Whisky Business – that I chose to have a high tea for the girls there, in honour of my birthday!
And now I think I’m all macaron’d out … for a few days anyway π .
Are you a macaron lover?!

Yum. Happy birthday for whenever it was Janet. I’m on a diet and won’t be tasting macaroons/macarons in the near future. Sigh.
Janet Camilleri says
Pffft Pinky you so don’t need to diet …

That high tea looks amazing. My girls are huge fans but I’m fairly restricted with what food I can tolerate at the moment so haven’t tried them.

For me they look delicious but are too sweet. I am not quite sure what all the fuss is. How great is that high tea.
Janet Camilleri says
Yeah hubster is not a fan, but then he doesn’t really like meringue, pavlova etc either.

I’m not a big fan of anything sweet but I do love muffins and scones. Macarons seem to be the flavour of the month at the moment. Gosh that High Tea looked superb! I want to go there!

Definitely a fan, and after tasting them all over Paris I very boldly say that mine are damn good. I was on a mission to get them just right, and after about two years of practise I did it. I also published a whole page about making macarons on my blog because they are still so popular.
High teas are the best, btw.
Janet Camilleri says
Ooo I will have to check out your post on how to make them!

I love macaroons and indulge in the odd 2 every few weeks. They are a revelation!
Emily @ Have A Laugh On Me says
Happy New Year Janet! Actually I quite like them but they are very overpriced for what they are I believe!
Janet Camilleri says
They do just melt in your mouth until it feels like nothing …

I love love love macaroons x

I’m not a fan of macarons but that high tea spread looks divine!

I have always wondered about the difference between macarons and macaroons – neither of them are my cup of tea but it’s nice to know a little bit more now. Enjoy your search of good ones Janet!
