How would you describe your husband’s fashion style?
The hubster likes to dress fairly conservatively; he’s not a trend setter, yet he always looks neat and well-groomed. Personally, I think he looks great in a polo shirt and a pair of nice shorts (but then I’m biased!).
Like men everywhere, he doesn’t particularly enjoy clothes shopping, and is keen to find what he needs quickly and get out of there!
So when he wanted to hit the shops recently to get some new gear before starting his new job, I jumped at the chance.
He’s lucky that he works in the ‘burbs, where the dress code isn’t terribly formal – no suits and ties required. Usually a business shirt or even a smart casual shirt will do the trick; as he already has a couple of favourites, we knew exactly what we were looking for.
What Does the Perfect Men’s Business Shirt Look Like?
In the hubster’s opinion, the perfect men’s business shirt:
- can be a business style shirt or even something smart casual;
- preferably has short sleeves for our Queensland climate;
- features subtle colours and/or patterns (no bright colours or loud patterns!);
- and finally, is made of a polyester cotton fabric that doesn’t require ironing.
It sounds simple enough, doesn’t it?
We came home with only ONE shirt. And even that one needs ironing!
I think the hubster is pretty typical of most middle aged men – he’s not interested in being a fashion icon (unlike his wife 😉 ). He likes to look smart but not too trendy; and he wants to feel comfortable. And like most of us, he’s busy – so he’s really not interested in mucking around with ironing (Yes Virginia, real men iron their own clothes!).
People might be mistaken in thinking that this is his favourite shirt (above). The reality is, because it doesn’t need ironing, it’s easy to pull on in the morning. If only we could find more like it – men’s clothing manufacturers take note! There are trousers that don’t need ironing – now what about creating the perfect men’s business shirt? I’m sure it would sell like hot cakes!
Please tell me we are not the only ones desperately searching for the perfect men’s business shirt … and if you’ve found a supplier, please share the details below!
Sam - Journo and the Joker says
Aaagh, the Joker has no sense of style and no interest in looking good. He is not remotely influenced by other people’s opinions, which has its pros and cons. And he doesn’t do business shirts. He can often be seen in a worn long-sleeved cotton orange shirt, which thankfully has faded from its once Fluor luminance, but is still fairly garish. Comfort and practicality are his priorities and shopping is never on the to do list.
Janet Camilleri says
I remember giving the hubster a bit of a makeover when we first started going out … since then he’s been pretty good though!
Pinky Poinker says
My goodness that’s a brilliant idea Janet! A business shirt/formal shirt you don’t have to iron… why hasn’t anyone done it?
Janet Camilleri says
Wouldn’t it be nice? Ironing sucks!
