Do you ever find yourself challenged to practise what you preach?!
One of my regular clients is a beauty salon. Not only did I create their website, I also write content for it on a regular basis.
This month, it was all about the benefits of massage.
Ooops.
I Must Confess – it’s one of those things I know with my head: a regular back and shoulder massage is not just about being pampered. It’s also good for my physical wellbeing, especially when the bursitis in my shoulder is playing up.
And yet … I can go months between appointments.
You’ll be happy to know that I’m finally practising what I preach – and going for a massage every couple of weeks.
Funnily enough, it’s also a recommendation in the Business Plan I’ve prepared as part of my Cert 4 in Small Business Management. When we did a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), one of my main areas of weakness is my body. If the bursitis in my shoulder gets worse, or spreads to my left side as well – basically, I’m stuffed. So I need to look after myself, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because my very business and income relies on my continued health and wellbeing!
No longer do I have to feel guilty about booking in a back and shoulder massage every other week. It’s not a luxury, it’s essential ๐ !
Do you have any “essentials” in your life that others might look on as “luxuries”?!

Oh yes, quiet time away from my family is a must for me. Probably makes me seem selfish but that’s the way I am! I may have to run away from home to get it, though. Doesn’t always happen! GRRRR
I’m glad you’re looking after yourself and getting your regular massages. xo

haha, sometimes I find it is easier to give advice rather than follow it! Especially when you’re a parent, other needs must come first! ๐

I was really finding the infra red detox booth (a bit like a sauna) beneficial and I must start having them again. Only issue is that I’ve been back on the steroids and apparently if you’ve been on them a month you need to wait a month before having a session in the booth.
I would love to have massages but I can’t stand anyone touching me at the moment being so puffy and swollen.

I used to get massages regularly when I worked but now it’s one of those items that gets put by the wayside when living on one income. I love a good deep tissue massage. I can feel the knots in my shoulders as I type this!
Toni @ Finding Myself Young says
I’m getting a massage tomorrow! I got two vouchers last year in October and used one and then kept forgetting (or making excuses) to not use the other one. It expires in a week so I’ve finally got off my butt and booked it in. I’m all for massage, but Im really bad at taking time out for myself so I’m forcing myself to do it tomorrow.
Kirsty @ My Home Truths says
I’m going to book in for a neck and shoulders massage too when I go along for the facial that I received as one of my farewell gifts from work. My neck is always tight and sore and I know a regular massage would probably also do me the world of good. So glad you get to enjoy them guilt free now Janet!

Good on you for taking the time to look after yourself. One of the things I do regularly is take time out and a lot of people think that it’s a luxury. However it enables me to recharge, and be better at everything that I need to do.
Emily @ Have A Laugh On Me says
I really should do this because our health insurance covers most of it, I’m not sure why I’m so slack. It really is worth! Kick up the bum duly noted. And your comment on my post made me laugh today, thanks lovely xx
