What are the Spring wardrobe staples that you will draw on again and again, no matter what the weather?
Although the weather might still be quite cold, suddenly, all the dreary darks just don’t seem to cut it anymore.
And as the temperature can change on a whim, it can be really hard to get it right when you are trying to choose what to wear each morning!
Never fear – Middle Aged Mama is here to the rescue with your guide to essential Spring Wardrobe Staples …
1. Denim
Denim is great for the “tween seasons” season. Personally, I can’t wear denim in Summer – it’s just too hot. But you can take your denim from Winter to Spring with just a few changes. To mark the new season, try and add some colour. It might be just with a colourful, lightweight (rather than wooly) scarf and some earrings; or you might find a shirt or jumper in fresh Spring colours like coral, turquoise, lilac or pink. Dark denim usually looks dressier, but as the weather warms chambray and light, even white denims, come out to play.
I find denim is a wardrobe staple all year round, but never more so than Spring. Jeans of course, or how about a denim skirt? For my money, you can’t go past a denim jacket – it strikes just the right note over many outfits – why not try it over an old maxi dress?
Trend Alert: Seems double denim is making a comeback. Yes, really!
2. Monochrome
Embrace monochrome: black and white – it creates the perfect bridge to carry you across all seasons with style! Once you have a few monochrome pieces in your wardrobe, again, lift the look with a touch of colour – hot pink shoes, jacket and bangles; or how about a yellow statement necklace and bag?
Trend alert: Jumpsuits. Why not get one in black, or a black/white pattern? Just the thing to take you through Spring AND Summer!
3. Florals
You just can’t go past florals for a touch of Spring: try a blouse or a kimono jacket, or introduce a floral motif with a blouse or scarf. Again, think fresh, light and bright.
Trend alert: Blue florals are huge in stores at the moment – perfect for wearing with Spring Wardrobe Staple #1 – denim!
4. Jackets
To my mind, a jacket or two make Spring dressing so much easier. Not only does a jacket dress up even the plainest outfit, it’s a great way to introduce colour – and can be taken off if it does get too hot, so you can stay fresh. Nude goes with anything, or how about a statement colour to see you through this Spring/Summer – splurge on a jacket, scarf and jewellery in the same tones to brighten up your basics!
Trend alert: Combine #3 and #4 with a floral kimono jacket for a very up to the minute look.
What are your favourites when it comes to Spring wardrobe staples – or what’s on your shopping list?!

I’m a jacket girl. Even after a wardrobe cull I have over 50 jackets. I love the look of the jumpsuit but I’m just too short to pull this look off.

I have seen a lot animal print around but mainly in just black and white. Also some geometric prints. I love dresses for Spring after wearing jeans and long pants all Winter.

Yes, except now I’ll have to shave my legs!!!

I love the look of that jumpsuit! I’ve never owned a jumpsuit either, thinking that it was not a very versatile piece to wear, but it does really make a statement. And I also adore that sky blue necklace and earrings you paired with it. Amazing how versatile that bright piece of jewelry can look. Am now thinking to be on the lookout for a jewelry piece in a similar colour to add to my accessories 🙂

I love the black and white look. Especially those dresses where the black scoops you in at the waist making you look thinner! I need one of those dresses.

I definitely agree with denim and jackets being spring wardrobe staples. On my shopping spree today I bought a lovely pale denim jacket from Sussan to replace my worn out darker denim jacket which I wore out last year with my constant use!

For the first time ever I bought a denim shirt, have worn it twice, must say not a fan. I have been using your tip of a highlighter in the corners of my eyes, makes a huge difference, thank you xxx

I’m so in to florals and denim. I love jackets and jumpsuits on others but not on me. But my favorite weather is sweater weather. Love it.

Having tried a jumpsuit on recently, I think I have to agree with you!
