I’m a bit slow I know, but while in the shops on Sunday it finally hit me: Easter is this coming weekend!
Which presents me with a bit of a dilemma – are my children too old for Easter eggs?
Our family tradition was to have the Easter Bunny visit while we were at church, and leave the chocolate bounty on the kids’ pillows.
Of course, the kids stopped believing in the Easter Bunny a good many years ago now, but we have still given them Easter eggs every year.
We’ve definitely toned down our celebrations as the kids have grown older. I think last year we bought each of them a family sized block of their favourite chocolate instead – it was what they wanted, and let’s face it, you get much better value for money that way. (We have been known to splash out and buy Easter eggs when they are on sale after Easter though!).
When the hubster and I were shopping on Sunday, I suggested we buy some Easter eggs for the kids while we were there – but he thinks we don’t need to bother any more, now that they are nearly 21 and 18 (and one of them has even left home!).
I can see his point, but as a soft-hearted Mummy (a bit like a Cadbury creme egg!) it just doesn’t seem right to not spoil the kids with chocolate at Easter ๐ .
So that’s my dilemma this week dear reader – to Easter egg or not to Easter egg, that is the question! When did your parents stop giving Easter eggs to you?

I’ll still be buying Easter eggs (can’t help myself) – just not as much and not with all the fanfare from when they were kids. Cute piccies ๐ x

We are scaling right back with the big kids- we thought a family movie and fun day as well as a bit of choccie might be just the thing ๐

Never too old for Easter eggs. Never. When we were kids we always got a few eggs. And as an adult, I still love a few eggs, especially the candy ones. I’m confused about the current trend for kids to get eggs and Easter presents. When did Easter presents come on to the scene?? How on earth do parents afford the costs of modern children?

I know right!
Raych aka Mystery Case says
I’m having the same dilemma, if you ask any of my chocoholic family the answer would be you are never too old.
Janet Camilleri says
Yeah that seems to be pretty much the verdict here too ๐

We still buy eggs for our adult children and children in law. And we hide them. My daughter in law had never had an Easter egg hunt before.
It’s good, clean family fun and we get to share the love.
Janet Camilleri says
LOL that is very cute. I’m thinking I will be a very un-submissive wife and just get the kids some Easter eggs, despite hubster’s opinion!
Mandy Barbie Bieber Beyond says
I haven’t been to the shops yet either….but my opinion…you are never too old for Easter Eggs!!! Happy Easter
Ingrid @ Fabulous and Fun Life says
You are never too old for Easter eggs! In our family we buy Easter eggs for everyone not just the kids!
Nikki @ Wonderfully Women says
I don’t care how old my girls are they will always get Easter eggies. I still get some from my parents! We don’t go nuts just a few, but it is fun and yummy.
Bec @ Seeing the Lighter Side says
Absolutely NEVER too old for Easter eggs!! #TeamIBOT

With boys aged 21. 19, 16 & 15 I ask myself the same thing, but then I thought if I don’t buy them Easter eggs, I won’t get the uneaten leftovers lol Happy Easter lovely x

Oh those pics are too, too cute! As for the eggs, I’m all for indulging at holiday time (p.s. love the idea of the block of chocolateโฆhmmmmโฆcome to think of itโฆ.could go a piece right nowโฆ)

I’m sure they love the eggs still. Nice to pull out the old photos and reminisce. My parents always give the grand-kids pyjamas for Easter figuring that they get enough chocolate. Saves us buying them new winter PJ’s. I’m still partial for the odd cadbury cream egg, but one or two will do me.
Janet Camilleri says
PJ’s is a fab idea, saves on chocolate overload ๐
Emily @ Have A Laugh On Me says
Do it – they’ll love the notion and what they don’t eat you can – win-win! x
Janet Camilleri says
Maybe not for my waistline ๐
Bec @ The Plumbette says
My mum gives each of us a gold lindt bunny. I love it. I will still buy my girls Easter eggs when they are older and moved out. Gosh, that sounded weird!! Trust your motherly heart and give them something small. xx
Janet Camilleri says
Love this idea Bec … might just have to do it!
Druime@[email protected] says
Never to old. There is something about the chocolate from an Easter egg its just not the same as from a bar. Maybe because we would eat it even before breakfast so it tasted even better. ๐
Janet Camilleri says
LOL I agree. Some say it’s because it’s rubbish chocolate but whatevs ๐
Renee Wilson says
How about you buy them a nice box of chocolates instead? That way they’re still getting something, but it’s a bit more mature. They might surprise you and give you something in return?!!
Janet Camilleri says
Now there’s a thought!!!! Somehow I don’t think so but you never know …
Danielle @ Several Kinds of Crazy says
I say go for it!
There are so many Easter eggs on the market not targeted at children. Get them something fancy, I’d love to still receive an Easter egg off of my Mum & I’m 34 ๐ my Mother in Law always gets Hubby & I a Cadbury Bunny.. Takes the temptation off of eating the kids eggs in our instance too ๐
Kathy Marris says
My kids love chocolate so I will be buying them some form of chocolate whether in the form of an egg or a box of chocolates. They would never forgive me if I didn’t!
EssentiallyJess says
My parents still bought them for me (when I lived near them at least!), and the inlaws usually buy Boatman and I something small to share.
I think you do what you want, but even a small bag of eggs is better than nothing at all, and it doesn’t cost much. It’s the thought that counts. ๐
