It’s no secret that I love blogging π .
Ever since I was first introduced to a real-life blogger (Kelly from Be a Fun Mum) nearly ten years ago, I have been intrigued and entranced.
It wasn’t long before I started my first blog, for Footprints, the small magazine I was running at the time.
I guess you could say Middle Aged Mama is my third blog. (There was the short lived Redland City Living in between).
The longer I’ve been blogging, the more I love it.Β Sure, I have my days when I just need a break, but they are few and far between.
There are so many reasons I love blogging, and some of them just might surprise you …
- I love to write; I would be writing anyway so it may as well be for my blog! At least this way I feel productive and like I’m achieving something π .
- I like to talk. Having a blog is like having a captive audience, with nobody to interrupt!
- I’ve found my tribe. Meeting other bloggers was a revelation to me. I fit in at last!
- The people. That’s you! I love the people I’ve met through this blog, especially my regular readers and followers.
- It’s opened up so many opportunities. I’ve flown to Melbourne to tour a cruise ship; and conducted blogging workshops.
- I love the immediacy of blogging. Coming from a background as a freelance writer for magazines, it is a joy to me to be able to write something and publish it instantly. I don’t have to pitch my idea first, wait weeks to hear back from an editor for the go-ahead (if I get it!), then even longer to see my words in print …
- I love the creativity of blogging.
- I feel like I am leaving a legacy for my children – and maybe even their children, their children’s children, and so on. My kidults are regular readers of my blog, so even if my blog disappears into cyberspace in time, they are getting to know about what makes their mama tick.
- Getting comments makes my day!
- Having a blog inspires me to live life to the full, and try new things – because it can all become fodder for the blog!
- I’ve learned so many new skills, which has all helped me in my business as an SEO copywriter.
- And unlike in my day job, I can pretty much write about whatever takes my fancy!
- I’ve learned how to pose for photos π .
- It’s kept me up to date with technology and social media, which is a great way of connecting with my kidults.
- There are even some lurks and perks – like making a bit of money from my blog, and being sent freebies to review.
- Many is the time I start writing a post and I have no idea where it’s going. I love just going along for the ride and seeing where the words take me!
- I may even have made a difference in other people’s lives. How cool is that? Even if it was just putting a smile on their face in a difficult time, or giving them comfort that somebody else has been there, done that – it matters.
In fact, the more I think about it, the more I’m sure I could add to this list of reasons why I love blogging!
If you’re a blogger – can you think of any that I might have missed?!

All those things for sure! Meeting and connecting people, creative outlet and and somewhere to write . . . the rest is all a bonus.

I feel kinda sorry for people who don’t love blogging!!!! π Or heaven forbid, don’t have a blog!
Liz says
You do a great job of blogging Janet;
keep up the good work !! I would definitely miss you and “Middle Aged Mama” if you stopped xo
Janet Camilleri says
Naww I love that you have followed me across from the Footprints days xxx
Min@WriteoftheMiddle says
I love blogging for all the same reasons as you Janet. If it weren’t for blogging I wouldn’t have met you and that would be dreadful! It’s so nice having friends that are like minded and enjoy the same things and who understand you and you can talk to about blogging and their eyes don’t glaze over or they don’t even know what a blog is! You do a much better job at blogging then me though – you’re far more regular and consistent! π x

It’s called writer’s diarrhea Min π

I love blogging too – I didn’t know how much I’d been missing out on and all the lovely people I didn’t know before I started this wild ride. It has enriched my life, turned it around and pointed me in a new and fresh direction. I love having somewhere to air my thoughts and to connect with other people. What’s not to LOVE about blogging?
Janet Camilleri says
I know right! Funnily enough I do know some people who don’t love it, and think I’m weird for doing it.
Jo says
I feel the same about writing Janet π It’s like an itch that has to be scratched, a virus in my blood. If I didn’t blog, I’d write anyway but it’s so much nicer meeting people online who might be reading what I’m writing … and finding lovely people like you π
Janet Camilleri says
We are lucky to have found something we love so much π

For me it’s a way of processing what’s happening in my life. I try to look at everything in a humorous way and it helps to cut down negativity in my life. I’ve met my tribe too, including the lovely Janet x
Janet Camilleri says
That’s a great way of expressing it Pinky – a way of processing what’s happening in your life. Thank you for being a part of my tribe!

Hello there, I love your list and can agree… and can even add that I love to be useful… to lend a hand, to share information and knowledge… online just as we mums and women in general do in cafes and at the school gate and at the checkout too.
Blogging is fun and it’s creative too… and like you, I do love the people! Enjoy getting your newsletters too.
Janet Camilleri says
Thanks Seana! Yes, it’s nice to think we can be “a really useful engine” (sorry, a family saying that has stuck around since the days my son loved Thomas the Tank Engine)!
