Have you ever thought about what it would be like if they were making a movie about your life – or am I the only one that falls down a rabbit hole, daydreaming about random stuff like this?!
The Main Character
I was trying to work out which actor would play the main character in a movie about my life, and came up with three possible leading ladies:
- Goldie Hawn (when she was younger) – because she did the blonde ditzy thing so well, and I used to be a bit the same.
- Drew Barrymore – I’m not a huge fan of Drew but there are some similarities – blonde and blue eyed, similar apple shaped bodies, a slight lisp, and our mothers were more of a burden than a blessing.
- Meg Ryan – because back in the day, people often used to say she was my celebrity lookalike.
The Leading Man
Let me begin by saying nobody could hold a candle to my Bear! But if I have to choose, there are a few middle aged heart-throbs vying for the role of leading man:
- Keanu Reeves – because he’s almost as handsome as my Bear, and he also seems like a fairly private person.
- I thought about Scott Baio – they even have a middle name in common: Vincent! But he lost me when he endorsed Trump in the 2016 American elections (ugghhh), so obviously he has no taste.
- Hugh Jackman is a strong possibility – Australian? Tick. Tall dark and handsome? Tick. Devoted to his wife of many years? Tick. Younger than his wife? Tick. All round nice guy? Tick, tick, TICK!
Genre and Storyline
A movie of my whole life might get a bit slow and boring in parts, so perhaps it could focus on a particular event or time in my life. How about:
- Growing up with a psycho mother, as that could make a good horror movie?
- Or maybe it could focus on the years that I launched and ran Footprints magazine – something like that Paper Giants TV mini series, about Ita Buttrose and the launch of Cleo?!
- It could be a tale of resilience and making good – from redundancy to Redland Woman in Business!
- Something like the Gwyneth Paltrow movie Sliding Doors … What if I hadn’t broken off my engagement all those years ago – what would my life have been like, compared to now?
- Or a rom com, about how my Bear and I met and fell in love, and still adore each other over 30 years later (a la The Notebook perhaps?).
The Soundtrack
I think the soundtrack would have to feature a fair bit of 80’s music, with songs like:
- Living on a Prayer – Bon Jovi, as it seems to capture how my Bear and I feel about faith, and sticking together through good times and bad.
- Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now – Starship, which was played at our wedding.
- Right Here Waiting for You – Richard Marx – ditto.
- anything by Rick Astley!
As I’m a happy, optimistic person, the soundtrack would also be packed with feel good hits like:
- Walking on Sunshine – Katrina and the Waves;
- Mr Blue Sky – ELO;
- On Top of the World – the Carpenters;
- Happy – Pharell Williams.
People often comment on my resilient nature, so I guess I would also have to include Tubthumping by Chumbawumba, the song that goes:
“I get knocked down, but I get up again … You’re never gonna keep me down …”
The Title
Which brings me to the title of this amazing blockbuster! How about:
- The World’s Most Boring Movie;
- The Adventures of an Ordinary Girl;
- The Only Way is Up.
Well, as they say in the movie world, I guess that’s a wrap!
What would the movie about your life be like, and who would you cast in the lead role?!
Leanne says
I have never given it a thought – my life would be so dull on screen. I’m just content to have lived it in the background and not to have to worry about getting caught out in my tracky dacks at the shop grabbing some milk!
You seem to have it all figured out – and I’d go with Hugh for your leading man – he’s pretty special!
Looking forward to my ticket to the Premiere 🙂
